Woodland Park punches above its weight when it comes to food.
For a mountain town of roughly 8,000 people, the dining scene here is good anchored by a few excellent restaurants that locals protect with the kind of loyalty that small towns reserve for their best institutions.
Here’s where to eat.
Red Diamond Gastro Pub — Best Dinner
Red Diamond is Woodland Park’s best restaurant by a comfortable margin. The menu is elevated mountain cuisine seasonal, thoughtful, executed with more care than you expect from a mountain town gastropub.
The pork chop with seasonal accompaniments is frequently mentioned in reviews and for good reason. The cocktail program is serious. The atmosphere is warm without being precious.
Make a reservation. It fills up on weekends and the wait without one is real.
Boards and Barrels — Best Casual Evening
Boards and Barrels has the energy of a place that knows exactly what it is and has no interest in being anything else. Great food, good whiskey selection, and the kind of easygoing mountain vibe that makes two hours feel like thirty minutes. The charcuterie boards live up to the name. The burgers are excellent. Go hungry.
The Hungry Bear — Best Breakfast
Every mountain town has a breakfast institution and The Hungry Bear is Woodland Park’s. Made-from-scratch biscuits, large portions, and the kind of hearty Colorado breakfast that prepares you for a day on the trails.Expect a wait on weekend mornings. Take it as a feature rather than a bug it gives you time to decide between the biscuits and gravy and the breakfast burrito, both of which you should order.
Swiss Chalet — Best Diner
Swiss Chalet has been on Highway 24 long enough to qualify as a Woodland Park landmark. It’s a classic Colorado diner — honest food, large portions, friendly service, and breakfast served all day. The eggs benedict and the chicken fried steak both have advocates among the regulars. Come for the food, stay for the feeling of a place that hasn’t changed in twenty years and has no intention of starting.
Cafe Leo — Worth Discovering
Cafe Leo is the kind of local spot that rewards the traveler willing to wander slightly off the main drag. A charming space, good coffee, and food that consistently surprises for a town this size.
Groceries and Provisions
City Market on Gold Hill Road is the primary grocery store in Woodland Park — well stocked for everything from a full week of provisions to a simple grocery run before heading to a cabin. Open daily.
Where to Stay
The Catamount Coze House is minutes from every restaurant on this list close enough for a dinner reservation, far enough from town to feel genuinely tucked away.
